I got braces about a month ago. They hurt for the first few days but after that you get used to them. They'll cut your mouth to ribbons though when you first get them.

If it's extra metal towards the back of your mouth, you could ask the dentist to clip these off. Or, you could use wax to block the harmful metal parts, although you don't want to swallow it.

I have my wires changed every 10 weeks. I guess it varies for the different treatments (I'm only getting my teeth straightened and bite fixed).
