I need to draw robot sharks soonnn

Right, but like, what's the point of mastering one thing (dragons, ponies, furries, robots, whatever the forget people like to post) and then just doing that over and over again? I like doing portraits, but I try not to repeat angles of faces, how much of the body is included, facial expressions, mediums, I try to mix it up, and I don't necessarily shy away from things that seem challenging to me. And for now, the reason I keep doing portraits is because I feel like I haven't mastered them, I have more to learn, and I'd like to get better. And once I feel like I'm at a place where I feel good about what I'm doing consistently, then I'll move on, back to landscapes, do architecture, do something else for the sake of continuing to grow as an artist.

Like I said, sometimes the things they try to vary in don't look good, so they don't post it. But I've seen plenty of variety in user content here.

Woah! Nice robot sharks!  :cookieMonster:

They're all covered in fine china

yes, he depicted the robotic rows of teeth quite nicely
Fun world of anthropomorphic beings
ya ok but it still looks dumb

Er... looks like a bunch of scribbles.

It's really obvious the pony comment is always aimed because when they usually come up someone always mentions my name and I'm the only one consistently drawing ponies. I draw a lot of ponies because that's what people request, I draw requests because I like being generous, it makes me happy, but that's a long irrelevant story.

I've drawn plenty of other things on request or out of my own will too.
TEL from Infinity Blade
Flareon
A Rabbit
Painting humans
Painting Giratina
Also, King Duck (inside joke)
I had a pretty nice seabed behind this Kingdra

And if anyone has actually noticed, I've been improving my colouring in my recent pony drawings. Sometimes I think people forget that colouring is a skill in itself, and its more than just staying inside the lines. Like you don't feel you've mastered drawing portraits, I don't feel I've gotten good enough at colouring things.

If someone tells me that digital painting is too different to be compared to painting with actual paint I swear someone's going to lose their kneecaps. A lot of programs get pretty damn close, Corel Painter is probably close enough that the only difference is it being more accurate and being able to insta-dry things.

Because thats what it is, not every drawing has to be a wonderful mural.

are these based off anything? I had a figure that looked a hell of a lot like ol' lower-left there

It should at least resemble a thing. Or be interesting to look at.
