yeah, you should heavily avoid shading with white and black, instead use warmer colors (yellow) for highlights, and cooler colors (blue) for shadows
What, why? Unless you're stylizing it to be this way, this is not what you should do. The hue is completely dependent on the situation. What you really should do is add in more intense highlights and shadows, but it all depends on your lighting setup.
