Remembered this exists, did some work on it. Coloured her chestplate and shaded everything other than her head. Also finally applied differentiating to the shading between the outline so that it doesn't awkwardly overlap so much.

Isn't that completely based on the character though? like personally if I can't get a good view of them from a reference I usually just presume 5 for humanoids, 4 for anything alien-ish, and 3 for anything meant to be cute.

4 and a thumb. I have attempted to cut this down for more simplistic styles but more often than not it is simply a nuisance that involves redesigning anything a character has in their hand or environment to accommodate their missing fingers. There's really no gain, it's just a pain.

im talking about 5 total fingers including the thumb
but in terms of the topic it depends on the hand and who it belongs to
like, a robot can have 4 fingers, but i was mainly talking about human hands
