print plates make good flat surfaces

Keep it, for when you get Full Version. And about that floating brick thing, theres a brick pack that Jay linked, I haven't looked, but there should be print plates, for you to be able to actually build ON, and have the properties of a normal plate.

Can you use the link I sent you? I'm pretty sure you can get add-ons in Demo but I'm not sure.

I linked him to some different Prints that allow you to make much nicer Tiled floors, what you're talking about is somewhere hidden in Bricks.
