You guys probably have integrated graphics and it is telling you the amount of RAM it can use. You need the much faster RAM that is on a video card to play. Or not, my dxdiag says my card has 3 gigs, it has something to do with video RAM vs total RAM.

I'm able to play my game just fine. Granted, I don't get the awesome resolution and settings I used to enjoy on my PC, but just to be able to play the game again is satisfying. I can stand reduced graphics for a while.
