Make them neutral towards you, then never interact with them again. If you are friendly or hated by them they will attack you.
Plus I was doing a major offensive towards them later on in the game, took down a few systems and then decided I was bored.

If they ally you, you have a crazy powerful ship in your fleet and they'll never attack you. Plus they pay more for missions.

IF THEY ALLY YOU EVERY OTHER RACE EXCEPT GROX loving HATES YOU
and attacks you so yah not worth it
