Well that depends on what you define as toony.
Hell, the characters looked like midgets, but they were alright as in realism.
Think about karate kid. THAT kind of sprites but smaller.

All I know is that the ninja girl had short black hair and the princess had long hair.
Also the princess was kidnapped by something and I think you had to kill said thing at the end.
