Texture won't show up

I recently made a model for a bot, and I made it an item just to see if the model was the proper size or if it looked good. On the face of the model, I had put a Blockhead face as a texture, not a color.I opened the game and spawned it, but the face wasn't on the model. What did I do wrong?

I would like to know how proper textures work as well. Solid colors are simple, but real textures..

For the most part, "proper" textures are the same thing as simple color textures. There's a bit more fung sheuing to do to get it to align right, but, yeah.
The face of Rotondo's tank zombie is a "proper" texture.

So does anyone here know feng shui?

So I'll have to make the texture a 16x16 png?
