Oh sorry, it must have been someone else.

Personally, I see no problem with an alternate to RTB, but the system in RTB is extremely handy. I don't plan on ever uploading hated/failed add-ons (coughDinnerBlasterV1), but I certainly see what Sheath means. The "monopoly" over add-on posting gives an enormous amount of power to Ephi, but he is trustworthy. If not a bit over-cautious.

I think the only reason people collect add-ons like the Ion Cannon is because it makes them feel empowered (because others want them) and/or nostalgic. The Ion cannon is a perfect example of something that should be failed, considering it can cause immense lag in areas of high brick concentration.

Anyone remember when Ephi and Lub DDoS'd Kalphiter's hosting service? He never got punished for it, either Badpot didn't care, or he just never saw it.

--- Quote from: Sheath on April 01, 2011, 06:06:59 PM ---My point is Ephi uses his position and his grasp on Blockland, and takes it beyond RTB. He went outside of both of his roles and targeted a website offsite. And then with a bit of smooth talking he thinks all the rest of us won't notice this was an intentional and motivated action.

--- End quote ---
He targeted the website because the creator (cucumberdude) outright admitted to not storing the passwords securely. It's not about whether he fixed it (which I agree, is 99% likely that he did) it's about whether this could happen again. Even worse, someone might store it insecurely purely because they want the passwords. (see: Poiyt or whatever it is, who stole TomTheGeek's password this way) THIS is Ephialtes' reasoning. A rate blocklanders service does not need an account system.

I would actually disagree with the failing of the topic if it wasn't for the fact that cucumberdude has done some completely handicapped things before. He did a WHOIS call on my domain, pulled the contact info results off and posted a topic saying "Is Zack0Wack0 blah blah who we think he is?" with the contact details in the content. That's right, he posted someone's real life address onto the forums with a phone number. Luckily it actually wasn't my details, because I'm not the owner domain. I can tell you right now, if it had been my contact details I WOULD HAVE BEEN loving PISSED. As you can see, I'm pissed off just thinking about it. I would not trust someone who does something as stupid as that with passwords.

--- Quote from: Sheath on April 02, 2011, 02:16:19 AM ---No, but he mentioned "Badspot considering" to do it in a threatening way. I doubt the legitimacy of him saying that, but it goes to show while he might not be able to deactivate my key first hand he sure as hell can try to pull a few strings.

--- End quote ---
He made a human threat. It may have not been a cause for a key deactivation, but it was definitely a reason to report you to Badspot. Imagine yourself as Badspot: how would you feel if someone went out of their way to make an entire website dedicated to breaking a rule that you enforce?

Yeah, that was a bad move on his part. But why should Badspot care? If I remember correctly it was Lub who carried out the attack, Ephialtes just pointed out the security hole in Kalphiter's management system or whatever the hell it was.

That he took information that was apparently public on one website and posted it on another website?
If it would have been already on the internet for anyone to look up, why's it such a big deal?
