I am active in community service and have no problems with harassing people over the internet.

Let's try a little example:
Bob decides he wants to help a family in need, so he volunteers. On the way over some guy comes up and says "HUR DUR COMMUNISM AM BEST HAI IMA CUT OFF MY BALLZ NO GIRLS WILL forget ME HEY friend WHY YOU THINK YOU BETTER DEN ME friend, hey want to spend a week helping me build a house I am homeless?" and Bob says "WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU YOU'RE AN IDIOT AND CRAZY GO AWAY!" Then he gets to where he volunteered and the people are like "OH Bob so nice to meet you we are sooo glad you came to help us we really appreciate it" and Bob says "No problem I love to help a family in need!"
Are you saying that a kind person has to also be a tolerant person?
