| Milkshape 3D How do I use vertex/face? |

How? |

Your question isn't really specific, it's completely vague. |

How?? I asked how to use the vertex and face things on Milkshape 3d. How is that vague? |

It's very vague. You fail to address exactly what is the problem. Though at this point, I assume you are a first timer of the program and are trying to select them. Vertex and faces are part of meshes, in order to do something with them you must select them. You do this by clicking the Select button under the Model tab (generally on the right side of the program), then holding down the left mouse button and dragging the box over the vertex or face. You have to choose which type of selection you are after, Vertex/Face/Group/Joint selections are found at the bottom of the Model tab. After selecting, you click the Move/Rotate/Scale button to do exactly that to the vertex/face. As for the Vertex and Face buttons found bunched with Sphere/GeoSphere/Box and other meshes, here is a quote from Milkshape's Help File. --- Quote from: Vertex ---Selection of the vertex tool (achievable on the keyboard by pressing F5) does not reveal any option panels. This tool is all encompassing as it deals only with the placement of vertices in any of the 2D viewports. Simply Left-Click where the vertex is to be placed. The vertex will always be placed on the zero point of one of the axis, for example if you are placing a vertex on the (front) x-y plane then the z position of that vertex will be zero. --- End quote --- --- Quote from: Face ---The Face tool allows the creation of polygons (particularly triangles) between specified vertices. The tool can be selected on the keyboard by pressing F6. The following image shows the Face Options panel. The threshold value represents the proximity the mouse cursor has to be in to successfully select the vertex as the next vertex to assemble a face. To create a face three vertices must be selected in order. The order in which they are selected is important as it defines wither the face will face outwards or inwards. Select vertices in an Anti-Clockwise direction to create an outwards facing face. A good way to see if a face is outwards or inwards facing is to right click in the perspective viewport and select Flat Shaded from the pop-up menu. If any faces are black then this means they are inwards facing. --- End quote --- |

--- Quote from: Blastdown on April 12, 2011, 04:01:20 PM ----snip- --- End quote --- Well, that's all correct, and a great resource, but I believe he was asking for these Face/Vertex buttons: Click on the 'Vertex' button and click on the grid where you want to place a vertex. Place three wherever you want. Great! Now we'll learn the face tool. Select all of the three of the verticies you just made. Click the 'Face' button. If you did it right, a face should appear. By default, you can do the same thing by pressing 'F' on your keyboard. A final note: Milkshape3D creates a lot of unnecessary verticies on shapes, so you will experience a lot of frustration when trying to add faces to existing shapes. --- Quote from: Sicarius on April 12, 2011, 03:49:36 PM ---How?? Don't be stupid, and specify more than just "vertex and face things" |
