you can play as the Uss[ umbrella secirty service ] or the spec ops. so you most likely can not play as leon sepc ops are are trying to help leon i guess.

yet something tells me in atleast one of the modes (ex mercs, if there is one) will let you be the normal people (clair, leon, ada, barry, jill, chris, ect)

along the game the two factions have firefights
so they grab zombies as meatshields
by common sense if you grab a zombie by the neck he cant bite you
