minecraft eventually got to a point where the devs were just putting in filler, and nothing to actually further the game.
Carpets and Adobe are some examples of this, but terraria is just adding a bunch of filler
some more colored bricks and different colored material + fireworks is meh

i actually understand what he means.
yeah, sure there's 1000 new items but according to what we've seen so far it's all the same kind of stuff, only stronger/different effects.
at least 1.1 really changed the game and added hardmode. i'm not sure if this update won't but from what i've seen it'll just be the same thing with different textures and stats. not saying i'm not looking forward to it but i don't think it'll be as magnificent as 1.1.

All the "new items" they add just seem to be half-assed and/or very shallow. They're not doing anything really to make the game better. The new biome sounds cool and the new water physics sound even cooler.
