Terraria - 2D Minecraft More focused on RPG/Action, surprise 1.3 :^)

Terraria seems pretty cool, I've known about it since the day it released. I will get it on Steam soon, but in what ways is it better than Minecraft? I got it in 2011, and I regret buying the game so much. I could of bought Blockland or Terraria sooner. I know one game is 3D, and another is 2D but are there any other noticeable differences? I see many. I'm basically trying to compare the both.

terraria is more rpg-like. it has an incredibly wide selection of items, and in general everything just looks(and plays) better. and i don't really know if the fact that it's 2D is a downside or not, but i personally don't think so.
not trying to sound like a terraria fanboy here but i seriously think every single thing about is better than minecraft.

I'm pretty sure they're hardmode items. The guy using them is wearing hardmode stuff and has quite an expensive looking castle, so its either that or he cheated to get those wings and fireworks are really super OP.
