The red stuff

Do you know how to break the crimson altars then? The Pwnhammer doesn't work because it's purely for demon altars it would appear.

Brain of Cthulhu doesn't give you anything useful to the problem. Perhaps defeating the Wall of Flesh on a crimson world gives you a different hammer.
Khorde:
crimson = corruption
i figured this out after i released the crimson's enemy ai is nearly identical to corruption, and the fact that you break "hearts" instead of orbs is similar as well.
Your world will only spawn one or the other, just like you may only get mythril instead of the new, pink ore. They work the same, but serve different aesthetic purposes.
ALSO WHAT THE forget DID I JUST FIND
my world had a "solar eclipse" and then i was smashing a stuffload of monsters when a grim reaper dropped this.

brain gives "tissue" which is synonymous to the "shadow scales". it makes armor and tools.
wof still gives the pwnhammer. Destroy those eye-looking altars yields the same results as killing a demon altar.
