Nope, I came during the day and mined the top off. Going in during the night.
Stocking:
Pro tip: If you go into the dungeon at night and lure a Skeletron head out of the dungeon, killing it will be counted as killing Skeletron and the heads will stop appearing and the old man will disappear.

Im going to make another character and use an inventory edit on him.
