Ski Resort Thing I've found skiing in Blockland extremely top-notch. Well, I've never seen a 3-D skiing simulator thing (other than those Flash games on Miniclip that I have no idea on how to play). Logically, people would want to build a ski resort, so they do. But each time I see a ski resort/lodge/run build, I keep looking on the "map" column of the server list and keep seeing the same thing: The Slopes. Sometimes it's The Jumps or whatever it's called, but it's mostly The Slopes. I've found a few problems, however, with using The Slopes: 1. It's hard to find a decent place to build a decent lodge with decent accomadation. 2. As it gets used over and over and over you get bored of skiing down the same slope. 3. No space for ski lifts! We're always heliskiing now! Being the bored user I am, I decided to solve all these problems I'm annoyed with: Build my own ski resort with its own slopes and lodges. Why? If I build my own ski resort out of the ramps and bricks I want to use, I can take a lot of control. Moguls! Ramps! Shear drops! The custom building of the mountain allows a LOT of realism. I mean, a LOT. There's the green circle slope and the double black diamonds, with the suicidal guys trying to weave through the forest and crashing into rocks and trees. The ski lifts add a lot of atmosphere. The rattle of the chairlift chairs cruising over the sheaves of the towers every once and a while makes you feel like you've got all the tools to do your stuff. The terrain can be shaped for stunning views or hotels and lodges. In between those, there are signs, night skiing lamps, fences, ski resort bus stops, rest stops and abandoned chairlift towers. The realism will be amazing. And it makes good depth-of-field shots, too. TL;DR: No Slopes = More Control = Realism! Stuff we need For something like this, quite a bit will be needed: To be built Anything green is done. -Chairlift Towers -Gondola Towers -Fixed-Grip Chairlift Terminal -Detatchable Grip (high-speed) Chairlift Terminals -Gondola Terminals -Bus Stop -Signs -Night Skiing Lights -Fence Segments -Trees -Fixed-grip terminal manning cabin -Anything you can come up with (Extreme skiing equipment like grinding rails and large ramps are permitted, but I want to finish basic things first) To be modeled and scripted -Sound effects (mainly for the ski lifts) (WE NEED THESE NAUGHW) -Custom prints (green circle, red square, double red square, black diamond and double black diamond difficulty signs and single, double, triple, quad, six-pack and quad canopy-fitted (hooded) chairlift signs. -A long-range bright light if the regular brights are too short-ranged -Chairlifts and gondolas: -Chairlifts: Single, double, triple, quad, six-pack and quad canopy-fitted (hooded). The chairlifts should be based off of this, but with this grip. -Gondolas: 8 seater, 4 seats on each side of the car. Base off of this and ignore the god-awful watermark. -Resort Bus (Trivial) I'm not gonna build the actual mountain terrain and slopes until I get the components done. May I Help? Sure! The easiest way to help is to get onto the darn server and start building useful things. Giving recommendations about what stuff to add (especially to the to-build list) would help. To me, the ski lift towers are done for now, but are wide open for variations in case I miss anything. Currently I only have: -Regular height chairlift tower, 4 sheaves -Regular height chairlift tower, 6 sheaves -Short height chairlift tower, 4 sheaves -Short height chairlift tower, 6 sheaves -Terminal exit dual tower, 12 sheaves -High-speed terminal exit dual tower, 12 sheaves -Regular height gondola tower, 8 sheaves -Short height gondola tower, 8 sheaves Terrain Guideline Crap -Any area not designated for skiing and/or forested should be made with detail down to x4 blocks. -Any area not designated for skiing but can be easily accessible by skiiers should be made with detail down to x2 blocks. -Any ski area should be made mostly out of ramps. Recommended slopes: -Flat to 18 degree for easy -18 - 45 degree for intermediate -45 - 60 degree for expert -45 - vertical cliff for suicidals Progress We are currently: Building Whitecast ski village Pictures PAAAGESTREETCH From left to right: High-speed terminal exit dual tower, terminal exit dual tower, short height chairlift tower (6 sheaves), short height chairlift tower (4 sheaves), regular height chairlift tower (6 sheaves), regular height chairlift tower (4 sheaves), short height gondola tower, regular height gondola tower. The short and regular height gondola towers. The fixed-grip (slow) terminals. The manning cabin thing will be added as a seperate component. The high-speed chairlift departure terminal. The high-speed chairlift arrival terminal. Night skiing light posts by Rambomize. The two bus stop variations. Ski directory signs with example text. First is the arrow which points to the run, next is the difficulty, then length in studs, then whether it is open or not. Vehicles. Snowcat by someone (I think it was Matty) and continued by Northmoor, plow/logging truck by Xamples. Manning cabin by Kilser. Assortment of fences by Xamples. Generic pond. Do not ski here. Yet.
