In my opinion, drug addiction shouldn't be viewed as a crime but a medical disorder as well as a societal disorder.

The method (assuming OP was addicted to it and by the way he explains this he isn't but assuming he is) should be to reflect on his life, identify what made him smoke weed, and society should take steps to keep that situation from happening whether it be a stuffty family life, a traumatic experience (abuse), etc. OP should then be checked into rehabilitation.

That's how addicts should be dealt with, not mindlessly thrown into prisons.

Just thinking of kids my age smoking makes me sick.

should it be viewed as a crime if they
do it too be cool
do it of their own free will / they just like it?

Wow, odd story, but I'm certain that in NO WAY do they have the right to snoop through someone's confiscated phone.

I know a lot of people who do weed and it has destroyed their life. I don't know any people who smoke weed and are on the path to success.

-Freedom of Assembly At least until they call in the SWAT team
That's a peaceful assembly you have a right to. The SWAT team does not show up to stop people from having conversations.

The first amendment to our constitution (Assuming the OP lives in America) is an outright lie.
-Freedom of the Press You insult a man over the newspaper and you'll be hated for it by his friends is not destroying that
-Freedom of Assembly At least until they call in the SWAT team swat can only come to protect you unless it gets violent or is on private property.
-Freedom of Petition If you're in school, this is a laugh not really
-Freedom of Religion If you're willing to risk being ostracized by all of your friends not being destroyed.
-Freedom of Speech The walls have eyes that is true..

I think that last one sums up my opinions. There's no freedom here.

Doing weed.

What the hell?

Smoking weed makes you cool, I advise doing it. Everyone will like you, you'll have tons of friends and you will succeed in life. Start now to achieve all of this as soon as possible.

That's a good point. I meant hardcore drug addiction.

That's interesting.

Did the marijuana lead to the cocaine. My fancy government site says it's a gateway drug.
