Stunts

And why it's loving awesome

What is this?

Stunts is a sandbox racing game featuring polygon graphics and awesome gameplay. The game was released in 1990 by Broderbund in the US, and in Europe it was released by Mindscape under the name 4D Sports Driving, to fit into their 4D Sports game series. The game was made for the MS-DOS (PC) platform, and was ported to several other systems such as the Commodore Amiga and the FM-Towns PC.
After 21 years the game still has an active userbase and a dedicated modding community, which has created several third-party vehicles and modding tools.
In 2003 the game was officially declared abandonware.

Installing

Installing the game is simple; just extract the archive you just downloaded from any of the links in the 'game files'-section below to an approporiate sub-directory. To run the game properly you'll need to either use DOSBox, or use a MS-DOS/Windows 9x-based computer. The game will run on Windows 2000/XP under NTVDM, but only at half the speed, making the game much less enjoyable and is therefore not recommended. Kris Asicks review (found in the 'videos' section above) contains some information on running the game in DOSBox.

Downloads

Game files
Download Stunts v1.1 (1991) - The game itself.
ZakStunts 2011 edition - Special compilation for the ZakStunts competetion, includes 5 extra cars and the TrackBlaster tool.

Start the game with stunts_k to bypass the copy protection. You need an emulator, such as DOSBox, or an MS-DOS/Windows 9x-based computer to run the game.

Mods 'n' such

ZakStunts carpack - if you for some reason don't to download ZakStunts 2011.
Zapper's car sounds - two new engine sounds for the adlib/soundblaster mode.
Zapper's realistic (oh well) car pack - This contains the original stunts cars, (de)tuned to match their real-life counterparts.
TrackBlaster Pro - A 3rd-party tool for creating Stunts tracks. It allows you to do things otherwise impossible, such as placing roads on water.

Tracks

I strongly recommend that you extract these to a subdirectory, otherwise the root directory will be extremely cluttered.
Gemini's track pack - 38 challenging tracks.
ZakStunts competition track archive 2001-2010
Stunts competition archive - All known stunts competition tracks until 2009 - a mere 590 tracks!
Zack McKracken's Track Pack - A massive compilation of 2500 (!!!) tracks, categorized by letters.

Resources

Unofficial Stunts Website
Stunts forum - I know this might be against the rules, but these are a must if you want additional cars.
Kalpen's stunts page - No, not Kalphiter.
ZakStunts website - the official website for the ZakStunts competition.
