I had an aunt who died in a horrible car accident that I think involved fire, and she never appeared on the news.
This is evidence, yet not solid proof. the media doesn't have to take every story.

My friends mother drowned in front of her entire family and the media waited 3 weeks before publishing any stories.
The mother worked in charity and cancer research, and had 4 kids all under 15.
The father is also a world-renowned surgeon, so it's a fairly big deal.
