I talk far too much about /mlp/ but the mechanics of the MLP General never cease to amaze me
there's a special image called
the marker (which the MLPG OC
"Marker" is based on) which has an MD5 checksum used by the Hyper-Index to locate the current active MLPG thread (the marked thread must also have certain keywords in it to be considered)
it's monitored by a group of marker movers who share a post-deletion password, so when a new thread is made the marker from the previous thread is removed by one of the movers and reposted in the new thread to mark it as a sort of beacon so the Hyper-Index picks it up and lists it as the active thread
it's not a perfect system, on occasion some jackass will think it's funny to delete the active MLPG and post the marker somewhere else, which makes it so the thread that takes its place can't be marked, but it's still fascinating
and if you don't want to read that rubbish
here's the (still quite beautiful) instrumental version of Celestia's Ballad to make up for it
