I for one just find it to be an enjoyable little cartoon. It's nice to have something cute to distract me from the world, and I try to do a little studying on character personalities (which traits and combinations are good or bad), being a budding animator. The art style draws me in too, it's simple but so many character reactions and body language are easily expressed.

This show is all-around fun to watch. The character development and plot belays its status as a 'lame little girls show'. And for those with simpler tastes, it has a fair amount of action as well. It's also funny and well-drawn. And don't forget the wonderful fan media.

Those are things specific to any human. That girl had no wall-eyes or any special features that gave any inclination towards being a translation of derpy. It's not a pony, why is it in a topic about the said subject?
