I think the point was that Lyra is a human name, you wouldn't name a person "Derpy" or "Twilight Sparkle" (well, most sane people at least)
Which I guess is part of the joke since Lyra is known to sit like a human and thus the fandom has marked her as the pony who indulges in human activities
