I live in Virginia and my aunt lives in D.C. and my other aunt lives in Charlotte so I could do either one of those.

Lol, absolutely nothing in Idaho or Montana, even though they are quite large. :P
Also, put mountains near Colorado, so they can be the Rockys. Add the Appalachian too.
And make the central states flat, but the southwestern states rocky. (With red soil)
