I did it in a water bottle and it jumped straight up and landed, it was really cool

I got 3 mortar boxes, lined all three tubes next to each other, and they all shot off at once and exploded all together.

And the next time I tried that, it exploded on the ground. Very scary.

While I watched the fireworks light the night sky this evening, I wondered to myself where this tradition came from. How did it come to be? I'm not sure why, but it is hard to imagine someone walking up to Ben Franklin and saying "Hey, I have an idea: Let's blow stuff up! For America!" is the cause of such an event. :o

Well China did celebrate with fireworks. So I guess America just picked up on the idea.

Try bottle rockets into water.  stuff is so cash.

Me and my friends also launched cherry bomb mortars and all that too.  We also launched a model rocket that we decided to get rid of, but we taped a bunch of sparklers on it and lighted them all.  It flew and then landed in a field, and we had to put out the fire it started lol.
