He was dragging the soldier to safety, suddenly shot, he stumbles from the impact of the bullet and falls dead.

The cat one is sad, but the story is ruined as soon as the story teller tries to make it about them, and the lesson that they learned and how they're a better person. Amazing story though, I hope it's not true ._. that's so sad.
