I never use VATS because it's loving stupid and misses with 95% at point blank range. Five times in a row. |

I use V.A.T.S for long-range shots in the dark, or when I need to find out if any enemies are in the same room as me when I'm hiding. |
| Littledude:
I pretty much only use vats to identify people. If I see someone in the distance and am unsure what faction they belong to I use it to find out. |
