it's eh. atleast you didn't put down a 16x16 plate and call it the island, but it could use more detail, aside from that good job for a first.

A mini-build is almost the equivalent of building things normal size with nothing but base cubes..
Why are they so popular? Because there easier and take less time to make?
And yea.. your build looks alright for a sandcastle.
