My first death... and three other dwarves died too. All of them were miners, burned to death while digging for magma.

Adventure mode has an interesting difficulty curve to it. It starts out where you have like a 50% chance to die from a quest, and like a 25% chance to die from a random event. If you are lucky enough to gain the skill to make the quests easy you are mostly in the clear, but if a random event leaves you injured or alone you can still die. If you manage to make it long enough without dying from this, then you become invincible.
