Dwarf Fortress Megathread! - Necro'd enough to count as a vampire
Flush535:
Hey guys I think this thread finally has some life moving through it again.
More on topic, what tileset do you guys like to use? I used to use Phoebus, but now I like the default tileset more.

You need to get yourself some seeds when you begin.
Also, it is a good thing I made a backup file for my vampire. I overestimated my power and ended up making a couple of huge mistakes.
First, I entered a tomb and found out the mummy was a necromancer. It was alright because night creatures won't attack other night creatures. But when I couldn't find a book or slab to become a necromancer too, I got frustrated and attacked the mummy in anger. The mummy proceeded to curse me and then he gave me my first injury ever. I was frightened and ran away.
Next, I did a legendary quest and killed a sand titan without incident.
After this, I found another legendary quest to kill a goblin warlord. I grabbed myself a couple of companions and set off. When I arrived I found that the goblins were not hostile with me. I made them my friends. Then I accidentally walked into one of my non-companion goblins which I automatically attacked. This caused all of the 20 goblins surrounding me to turn on me. I was injured and ran towards a river, turning to attack only when there was one goblin within range. When I got near the river I saw my old companions, who then proceeded to tell me that they would kill me. Apparently, I had pissed them off. I made it through this fight, but not without losing my ability to stand.
I went to a nearby village to check and see if I was hated by the civilization. I was. I decided to go and kill a couple bogeymen to raise my stats. This went alright, and then I went back to the village. It is a bad decision to fight people when your movement speed is around 400. The curse kills your combat skills and I was badly injured by the villagers, losing the ability to hold weapons. I managed to run away until only one was chasing me, and I through a piece of clay at his head and killed him.
Finally, I stopped at another village to check on the status of my wounds. I saw a villager heading my direction and ran. I wasn't fast enough and by the time I hurt him enough to run away it was too late. I bled to death.
Now I will need to restart from when I did a backup this morning.

One of the bugs I really hate in Dwarf Fortress:
When you make criminals your companions it won't ask you to confirm before attacking them. This also means that by walking into them you will attack them automatically. What this also means is that even if your other companions are ready to kill your new friend, if you attack him at all then they will turn on you and make you hated by civilization.
Today I was bloodthirsty as a vampire, so I ventured beneath a castle. Under the castle I found a goblin swordsman and found out I could make him my pal. Then I accidentally walked into him later on and all of my companions attacked me. They were easy for me to kill, but now half of the places I go are hostile toward me, and I still haven't found a necromancer tower.
