Extended Clan Tags

I've seen some cigaretteolas prancing around blockland like they own the place with extended clan tags.
What I want to know is
* How do they do it
* Can anyone supply me with a code snippet that could help me recreate this effect.

Clan tags are handicapped to begin with.

I do it sometimes on my own server. When I do it on my server I do own the place

Totally, I hate the way they look and its just an extra bit of ugliness thrown into the chat.
