The man took the opportunity of my confusion and swung his large blade. I noticed it and leapt back, but I was too slow. The tip slashed across my cheek, leaving a bloody gash. I howled in pain and grabbed my face, my hand bloodied.

I shifted my aim and shot the man in the arm, then lowered my aim to his leg, and fired. He collapsed to the ground, one of his hands over the wound in his leg.
"If I wasn't so curious as to what this laser is, you'd be dead by now. So tell me, what is it?"
