I, personally, believe the purpose of life is to better mankind in future generations, and improve our species as a whole.
We are failing pretty bad then.

You're thinking of survival, not enjoying life.  In a primal sense, yes you are completely right.  I desire a fulfillment in my own life though, something an animal can't comprehend.  You have to be a thinker to enjoy life, in my opinion.  And you are a thinker, I believe.  You just aren't thinking about things the right way.  Obviously, you don't need to conform to my ideas, but thinking in such a mundane way is a tad depressing.
But what he's saying is completely true.
The entire point of life is to reproduce. There's absolutely nothing else.
Sure, you can make your own goals, but the entire point of it is to reproduce and continue the species. Completely and no questions asked.

The tragedy of humanity is that we can contemplate the meaning of life. But it's that same ability that allows us to comprehend and understand systems far far bigger then ourselves, the same ability that will allow us to leave our mark on the stars.

My personal goal in life is to understand. I want to know how and why things work. But problems do arise from this. I went through months of rather severe depersonalization, and even mild depression. I understand my existence, and I'm frightened yet amazed by it.

You sound depressed, maybe you should find something fun to do. Sure parts of life suck but not all of it. Get some friends, find a hobby, and if you still think life sucks with all these great things then you can always try to die  ;D

If by reincarnation you mean some of our cells after we are deceased are somehow incorporated into a female's egg or is coincidentally in the food a pregnant woman may consume which would then provide energy for the fetus and technically a part of us would be part of him/her...then I guess?

I mean, we're just a formation of living cells complex enough to percieve life through our senses. Our brain interprets all information it recieves from all receptors. That doesn't necessarily mean we have a 'soul' or some magical animata that enables us to live and decides who we are. DNA ultimately decides that. Have we only considered ourselves to have souls? What about mammals? Yes, maybe whales have souls and feel compassion and greed and lust (lol) etc. What about a fly? A what? Yes a fly. Hmm...well, it's so insignificant we never considered that. Micro-organisms? Yes, they're alive too. But do they have souls? Are they judged and sent to Hell or Heaven? So, some things have souls and other creatures don't? Where's the logic in that? Even if you believe in spirituality, its roots come down to morals and our own beliefs and values.

Our perception, rather misinterpretation of what we process as 'life' is not to live up to your dreams. It's not to fulfill anything. It's merely to survive, by reproduction as blaman pointed out, and we are constantly being distracted by other things. We see life more as anything 'alive' and in order to be an ideal person who contributes to society. That's rubbish. Whether or not this is true, I don't believe in either a God(s), or no God(s). It's simply something that's beyond our comprehension, and something that we are not (yet) capable of recognizing. It's the blunt truth.

Remember, God created us, but we created God. Think about it. (Hint - God is our reason for our 'existence,' which we cannot fully explain)

I see where you are coming from, but the purpose of life is quite primal. The enjoyment of life is a different story entirely.

I think Chrono just about summed it up.

I'm one of the very few humans that took the fun route of saying forget you to everything and then play on the computer 24/7 and do nothing but have fun :C

Just wait until you get a job. Its like working to make money that you will never be able to spend on things you enjoy because you have to work.
Bullstuff, my dad works, and we always get things we enjoy. A month ago, my dad had the desire to buy two dirt bikes. So we did. Thats what you get for working.

You should get out some. :P
Playing on the computer all day everyday is no replacement for an actual social life.

Compare: Quality of life in the 1600s, 1800s, 1900s, and present day. Look at what has changed as time has progressed.

He had his worst day yet.
His everyday school was stuff that day.
His girlfriend decided to dump him for no reason.
His grandma died.
And he will probably experience worse even before he's 17.
Holy loving stuff you're an starfish.

O NOES
Bro, when I was seven years old my cat had decided to sleep under the hood of a car, and it got started, basically butchering her alive, and I was the first one to see her.

Granted, he may have been pretty attached to his grandparent, and I can't relate since I'm emotionally disconnected from my entire family because my mother is a psychologically abusive shrew who lives in her own childish world and has been the source of the majority of my own self hatred during my early teenage years, and my father is never around.

Just saying, it's not exactly like I'm living a sheltered life. I've experienced my share of terribad stuff and I'm not being angsty about it.
