impact would break the egg.


My sister did this for physical science. Put the egg in roughly two layers of bubblewrap, with down feathers from a pillow or something similar to it at the bottom of a styrofoam cup beneath the wrapped egg. it worked. If you cant use helium balloons, use ones with oxygen, because that doesn't sink very fast and could easily slow down a falling egg.

No parachutes

Make a covering for the egg,
Get a larger cardboard box and poke tons of tiny holes.
Put string through the holes and attach it to the box/safty thing with egg in it
When you drop it it should act almost like a shock system not harming the egg at all.

I remember we could only use paper and tape. Cones are strong.
