how the crap do you script?

Scripting has to do with logic. With thinking. It does require quite a bit of cognitive skill.
I, personally, am not helped by guides. Excluding Iban's guide, which I highly recommend.
you could go with an apprenticeship, find a good scripter and work with them.
Mostly, it's just trial and error. Lots of it.
again, look at this thread and its links if you want a sort of guide.
Please do keep in mind scripting takes practice.

If only!
If I had a dime for every time someone asked me to teach them how to script, I'd have roughly a dollar.
