I like that you don't have to give up your sword and shield or two-handed weapon to use spells
what I, personally, don't like, is that it seems harder, to me, to use defensive spells without having to hold off on the offensive ones for a moment

like, oblivion just seems a lot less convenient for me, as far as spellcasting goes
let's say you're fighting someone, and you want to use a bound armor spell or something
you gotta stop attacking, open the menu, switch spells, use the spell, then switch back in order to keep fighting
I guess you could use hotkeys, but I play on an Xbox, and already use left and right for my sword and bow, so up is for my offensive spell and down is for healing (and the diagonal hotkeys are way too awkward to use regularly, especially in combat)
but in skyrim, it's just a matter of opening the favorites menu, and switching one of your spells to the new one, without having to change your other hand's spell, so you can keep firing whatever spell that is
unless you're changing to a two-handed spell anyway

In Morrowind casting spells occupies both of your hands.
