The reason why Skyrim map might be smaller than Oblivions is because most of the places in oblivion werent handcrafted polygon per polygon

the terrain and stuff is much harder/longer to get around than it was in oblivion (in a good way)
so when you are walking it is as if the entire map is much larger

the bugs in this game are hilarious. every so often when i walk out of buildings random dead dragon corpses fall from the sky. one just landed ontop of the general store in whiterun as i was walking out
