Installation is fairly straightforward, and has to be done in one of two ways. Usually it will just take experimentation to see which way works. For the most part you always want to put the DirectX .dll file where the rest of the .dlls are, and the config files in the root directory. Here are some examples of my successful/unsuccessful installations:
Skyrim (DirectX 9)
Put all 4 files in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim"
An easy way to tell if it is working before actually starting up a deathmatch/round is to open the game via steam, and look at the fonts on the Steam overlay. If the fonts don't look 100% sharp and kinda distorted, then the SMAA injector is working.

As a follow up: You apparently can do this for any game that works with DX9 and DX10/11.
I warn you though because Valve has not given a straight answer if you will get VAC banned for using it on games protected by VAC so you might want to avoid using it in those games.
