There's this magical thing called perspective.
Believe it or not, maybe the guy doesn't think he's being a douche?

Your argument is pretty much, "If we never invented weapons, no one would have been killed!"
People will be how they want to be.
If they want to be a douche, let them be a douche; in reality they're only hurting themselves.
That's an irrational perspective.

How can the guy who bullies someone constantly act like it's not effecting him?
If he wants to be a douche, he had better be a douche with someone that will actually tolerate his stuff.

You're saying "If he's a douche, he can be a douche, you just have to avoid him, even though he's the one seeking to bully the kid."

it's not that easy to simply avoid bullies.

Alright, what I'm trying to say is that if you can't avoid it, then you should seek help/consider Self Delete/whatever it is you want to do.
With cyberbullying, the whole thing can be avoided by simply clicking the button labeled "X".

When it escalates into real bullying it actually becomes a problem.

You can't solve all your problems by avoiding them.

If someone really liked an instant messaging site, and say, a troll comes on the site and starts degrading the kid, 9 out of 10 times he doesn't want to leave because it was fun until the troll came.

I agree with your views, but I doubt they'll leave.

And what I would be trying to say is that cyber bullying and physical bullying go hand in hand. You can not just avoid it and expect it to not exist.

i called a girl fat on facebook and a got a detention. school sucks

Rule of thumb, you do not call women fat. It ends in disaster, always.

This. Just don't loving insult people and life will be easier.

95% of IM sites have a block/ignore function.
Problem = Avoided.

While the internet seemingly makes it easier to "bully" people, it also gives you the tools to get rid of the "bully".

Cyberbullying is just one of those things where, in my opinion, it's the victim's fault for killing themselves rather then using the tools that they have such easy access to.

@Mulch If cyberbullying and real bullying go hand, okay.
It's just that it's not the cyber part that should be dealt with. It's the real part.

That would be almost exactly what I have been saying all along. The argument was about the legitimacy of cyber bullying not the prevention of it. I agree with you that the best long term solution would be to get help from a respected adult.

"don't insult people and no one will feel insulted"

well don't kill people and no one will be killed

and don't hurt people and no one will get hurt

if you always agree with people no one will disagree

It's not that simple. What you're suggesting is that humanity pretty much stops disagreeing on things and becomes one big hivemind with no conflict.
Humans are going to have disagreements, it's just our nature.
And disagreements quickly escalate into insults, murders, wars, you name it.

You are implying that everyone would only be looking out for themselves, you are wrong. Do not assume the worst of humanity.

i could give you all my address and never fear a thing. i won't because one of you would probably mail me a carrot.
What kind of carrot would you like?
(It better be dragon because that's what you're getting)

Groups can disagree as well.

When you get right down to it, we're no better then the apes we keep in the zoos. We fight over territory, we fight over food, we fight over water. We just have civilizations and technology, which in turn, creates more blood and strife.

I think what sets us apart from the apes is our ability to create and destroy, not just destroy.
