Meanwhile at the hideout.......
The shaft I dug is around 30 blocks above the bedrock level.....I was able to dig it right into a cave system. As I explored the cave, I found remnants of mine shafts...as well as a tunnel made of sandstone closed off by a large boulder with a sign reading "keep out, area is cursed."

Curious, I decided to dig into the boulder...and unvealed a room with a strange [-shaped structure in the center, along with a few blocks of sand, some flint and steel, and a few blocks of obsidian....
