You people make me pretty embarrassed to be a PC user. every single one of you mindlessly complain about stuff like "dumbing down", when the new stuff is just as capable as the old. Also, how much do you use the start menu to actually care?
Thanks for that tidbit about closing apps, but here's a picture of my start menu. I have no icons on my desktop, only internet shortcuts to pages that I want to revisit within a week or share with someone at some point, or etc. miscellaneous items. For all my programs that aren't Steam games, though...

So yeah the start menu is used pretty often unless you throw all of your icons on the desktop.
