I have a problem with my new PC. I am still waiting on my dad and I to go buy windows 8, but I am wondering why I am getting the message "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media" Shouldn't I get a screen saying OS not installed or something? I checked and rechecked my SATA cables and everything is plugged in okay. In my BIOS, both my optical drive and my hard drive show up! Just wondering will there be problems when I get to installing windows?

Remove all USB peripherals and drives, this is a step most people overlook for troubleshooting boot issues.
Make sure your computer isn't trying to boot from a floppy disk, only necessary if you have a floppy drive.
Ensure your primary hard drive (the drive the bootloader is installed on) is set to be the highest priority drive in your BIOS.

So I received my fresh installation of Windows 7 Ultimate and my new Bluray Optical bay in the mail today.

In probably an hour I'll get around to fully installing my new mobo, CPU, and HDD

not only that it's better than the POS mac i have

twice as good
mac has a 2.1ghz core 2 duo
this has a 2.5ghz i5
it has 6gb of DDR3 RAM compared to 4gb DDR2 on my mac
envy has a 1tb HDD
mac has 150gb
so yeah
envy's better than my mac

It just means there's no boot sector on the disk you're attempting to boot from. If you already have Windows installed, that shouldn't ever happen. If you don't have any OS installed, it should say something along the lines of "No bootable mediums found" or etc.
Should you not be able to wait for your father to obtain a copy of Windows 8, Linux is always a viable solution.

Either or. It's pure choice. Look at features and see which one is right for you.
