Not really.
If you want a whole bunch of ranks, you should try making it through some games like Wolfenstein ET's NoQaurter mod. Now that's a lot of ranks.

but if there's 9 then you can only really go up to sergeant first class lol

Expect for the major amount of ranks. The way I would do it would be.

4-6 tend to make it not overly complex, but the higher lower ranking is painfully evident.
