It's better disabled, but obviously only if you can run your server without it

The router, not the modem. Also, most routers support UPnP natively, but in some cases you have to explicitly enable it in your router control panel.

Reasonable, this helped me a tad bit, I didn't know ping was the miliseconds it took to connect, I thought it was just a rate of how laggy/ bad connection your server was, someone told me high ping is bad and low is good, that's it.
and about connecting it with KoopaScoopa's post, this really helps.
