Best method for making roofs?

Whenever I create a building, I always ruin it by creating a terrible roof. So I want to get some feedback from the community, what's the best way for me to go about making roofs for my houses?

The building is 48x48 and one story tall.

I forget what its called but I remember its putting 2 ramped bricks on each other...
stuff where is a picture of it.

try using plates so it doesn't look so steep, or make a flat roof with stuff on top
