I think he's saving up for a handgun which you need to buy at age 21, hence the "3 years". Then a plane ticket and goes to find Badspot. I'm not trying to joke around, this is my actual guess, what do you others think?

I think he's just saying that because he knows in 3 years nobody will ever remember it and then he won't have to actually do anything.
