That wouldn't work too well, actually, given that you can only mount 4 images (0, 1, 2 and 3). This isn't a purely Torque limitation, Badspot added it to prevent there being too many images because they can lag behind the player a little at times or something.

A custom model would be the best way to do it, the tool slot thing is a different matter entirely (personally, I would only use two tool slots; two readied weapons, then use some other stuff for consumables and equipping. Stop being scared of client mods)

I'm just trying to go for ease-of-play and simplicity. I want any player to be able to just join the server, spawn, and quickly understand how to do everything.

But back to the custom playertype, I guess the plus to that is I can do those custom animation, and make the rest of the humanoid creatures with the same exact animations for consistency. I already have a decent skeleton player model, I just never got it animated because I want it to have all the default animations. However it is proven to be pretty difficult to figure out where the correct joints go in what position, rotated what degree, to make it all work out.

It would have Custom bot playertypes like goblins, orcs, skeletons, and lizardmen roaming around. And it would be equipment based, so I wouldn't have to worry about doing exp and whatnot. You just work hard to earn the next tiered weapons, armor, and magical enchantments, then go kill the stronger enemies with it.

The weapon materials would be, in order of strength; Wooden, Copper, Iron, Steel, Silver, Obsidian, Diamond.
Made a batch of very basic models. Not a lot of drastic change from one tier to the next. Kind of like an evolution thing, I like that.

The picture above shows 6 of the 8 weapon types:
Dagger, Sword, Axe, Hammer (dagger fastest, hammer strongest)
Scepter, Staff (scepter faster, staff stronger)
Bow, Crossbow (bow faster, crossbow more accurate)

There would be Light, Medium, and Heavy custom modeled armors too. Off hand items that include shields and healing tomes.
The enchantments will be the usual Fire, Frost, Lightning, Unholy/Dark, Holy/Light. So I will probably put a crystal in all of the melee weapons too (and silver wand/staff) and the color of the crystal will change depending on the enchantment it has.

Needs more greatsword.

I could do greatswords, battleaxes, throwing axes, doublesided daggers, short bows, long bows, scythes, magic crystal orbs, all sorts of many weapons. However it wont add much to gameplay, it will mostly just add clutter. Too many weapons would be too similar that it would be a bit redundant. But i am likely to make special rare tier weapons that will be different.

At the same time variety is the spice of life but I know what you mean with it

Personally:
Daggers - Dual wielded, fast, low damage, left-right constant attack combo
Sword - moderate speed and damage, constant swings, can use shield in offhand
Axe (2h) - high damage, slow, hits in an arc in front of you for three hits
Hammer (2h) - high damage, slow, swings twice in an arc then a large aoe attack for third attack

Wand - fast projectiles, moderate speed, can use an accessory in offhand
Staff (2h) - moderate speed projectiles, moderate attack speed, hold mouse to charge aoe attack

Bow - variable damage, speed and spread projectile with speed/damage increasing and spread decreasing the longer you hold it back (to a cap)
Crossbow - high speed projectile with low spread, moderate damage

Light Armor - less health (50-70%), full movement speed and jump height
Medium Armor - average health (90-110%), full movement speed, 75% jump height
Heavy Armor - lots of health (130-150%), 70-80% movement speed, 50% jump height

Then of course special epic/god tier items above the normal tiers, like say, death's scythe, some staff with a dragon eye or something, stuff like that
