Day three we were armed and ready for those damned announcements. I was relaxed and feeling confident he would make it through the day without a hiccup. I was wrong. Shortly after dropping him at school, the vice-principal called to inform me she had Charlie in her office. Apparently he had bit his lip, a bump had appeared, and he was convinced this would get him a ticket home. The VP was calling me, in front of Charlie, to show him that even his beloved mommy wanted him to suck it up and stay at school. She decided I should talk to Charlie so she handed him the phone.

Charlie: Hi mom.
Me: Hey buddy. What’s going on?
Charlie: Well, you see, I have this big bump on my lip and I just have to come home.
Me: What kind of bump?
Charlie: I really don’t know.
Me: Ms. A says you bit your lip…
Charlie: ((deep sigh)) Ok. Yeah. I bit my lip. But it’s a big bump and it hurts and I just gotta come home. Besides, I miss you so much.
Me: I miss you too baby, but a bit lip is not a valid reason to leave school. Ask for a piece of ice to help it feel better and get back to class.
Charlie: But! But!
Me: No buts, be a big guy and ask for some ice. Okay….?
Charlie: …. (((a loud bang)))
Me: Hello? Charl… dammit, he hung up on me!

Depends on what kind of autism he has.
If he has aspergers syndrome, like me, he could probably figure it out in around 5 minutes, I knew what love was and how it worked before I even knew what research was and nobody told me about it, I just picked it up myself by thinking about it
