Here's some things that bugged me, just looking at the screenshot:
- App Store is called a store despite not actually selling anything. I suppose you should call it the App Center or something if you want to be correct.
- Tetris icon is stolen from EA's mobile version of Tetris. I seriously doubt anything will come of it but technically you shouldn't do that.
I don't see much utility in this for me so I don't really plan on using it. I run Blockland in a window with many of the same programs are already running on my desktop. However; I do think the project is kind of a cool concept and I like the idea of making the main menu more useful for people who want it, especially those that run the game in full screen or have issues with using alt-tab.
I don't know where you guys are getting your icons, but if you want a set of icons that look good and are licensed under a cc license so they are technically legal to use (if you actually care about that sort of thing), you can try
here. The icons come in a wide variety of sizes and even include the original vector format of the icon so you can export it in any size you want or easily modify it. The images are categorized, things like speakers, mp3 players, floppy disks, etc, are in the devices folder. Things like text document and image file icons are generally in the mimetypes folder. Folder and trash can icons are in the places folder. If you look around you can figure it out. If you're interested in allowing people to change their icon types you could easily include several of these themes as options.
I'm a big fan of the tango theme. Most linux desktops use it, but the ones that don't I generally install it on them.
